The Hormone Sisterhood Education
A big part of supporting your body naturally is understanding it. That means learning which hormones do what, when they rise and fall, and the factors that influence how they behave in your body.
This page is the “knowledge” side of The Sisterhood- your trusted space to learn, explore, and make sense of your health. Soak up as much information as you need, at your own pace.
When you’re ready to turn that knowledge into action, join The Hormone Sisterhood Membership or explore 1:1 coaching for step-by-step guidance and support.
Key Terms to Know
These are words and concepts that come up often- understanding them can help the rest of the information make more sense.
Estrogen dominance
When your body has too much estrogen hormone relative to progesterone hormone, which can worsen symptoms like heavy periods, pain, mood swings, and fibroid growth.
Leaky gut
When the gut lining becomes too porous, allowing toxins, food particles & hormones into the bloodstream, triggering inflammation and worsening conditions like endometriosis, fibroids, or thyroid issues.
Gut dysbiosis
An imbalance of gut bacteria (more harmful than helpful ones).
This can lead to inflammation, poor digestion, hormone issues, and a sluggish immune system.
Insulin resistance
When your cells stop responding properly to insulin (the hormone that moves sugar/glucose from your blood to your cells for energy).
This leads to blood sugar spikes, higher androgens and fat storage.
Inflammation
Chronic inflammation can cause pain, hormone imbalances, and immune dysfunction- and it’s a root cause in nearly every hormone-related condition.
Nervous system dysregulation
When your body stays stuck in a constant state of stress (like it’s always on high alert), it can lead to hormone imbalance, gut issues, inflammation, and more. Calming your nervous system brings your body back into balance.
Oxidative stress
A kind of cell damage caused by free radicals (unstable molecules that build up in the body and damage cells). It's often worsened by poor diet, toxins, chronic stress, or inflammation.
Hormone imbalance
When your body has too much or too little of certain hormones (like estrogen, progesterone, insulin, or thyroid hormones), which can lead to symptoms like irregular periods, fatigue, weight gain, acne, bloating, and more.
