5 Foods To Eat If You Have Fibroids

One of the first thoughts that crosses your mind after being diagnosed with fibroids, once the initial shock fades is:"Is there a natural way to deal with this?"
You start wondering: What can I eat? What should I avoid? Are there herbs or supplements that actually help? There must be something… right?
The answer is: Yes!
There are natural ways to support your body with shrinking fibroids, easing symptoms, and preventing further growth. But this is not the kind of information you’re likely to get from your doctor.
Why Doctors Rarely Talk About Lifestyle Changes for Fibroids
Conventional medicine tends to focus on treating symptoms with surgery or medication, not on prevention or finding root causes. It’s not that fibroids are “our fault,” but it’s also true that factors in our environment, diet, culture, and lifestyle can silently contribute to fibroid development and growth.
My own sonographer told me I had an intramural fibroid, shared the size… and that was it. No advice on diet. No mention of lifestyle. No guidance on what I could do to prevent it from getting worse.
It’s as if the system assumes that women aren’t willing to make changes- that we’re lazy, uninterested, or incapable of taking control of our own health. That mindset is harmful. It leads to unnecessary hysterectomies, myomectomies, and mental health struggles that could have been prevented.
But you’re here, reading this, which tells me you do want to make changes. You’re in the right place.
A Food-Based Approach to Fibroid Healing

Today, we’re focusing on foods that help to:
Lower excess estrogen
Reduce inflammation
Support liver detox
Balance blood sugar
Encourage hormone balance
These foods don’t “cure” fibroids overnight, but they do help your body create the conditions for healing- where fibroids are less likely to thrive and may even shrink.
Why Our Diet Matters
Fibroids are hormone-sensitive growths, particularly responsive to estrogen. Where estrogen is high or not well-cleared from the body, fibroids tend to grow. So when we support:
✔️ Balanced hormones
✔️ Liver detoxification
✔️ Gut health
✔️ Blood sugar stability
✔️ Reduced inflammation
…we give our body the best shot at healing naturally.
FOOD #1: Cruciferous Vegetables e.g. broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts
These veggies contain DIM (Diindolylmethane), a powerful compound that helps the body break down and eliminate excess estrogen.
Cruciferous veg also support the liver, which is crucial in hormonal detox.
Tip: Lightly steam to make them easier to digest while preserving nutrients.

FOOD #2: High-Fibre Foods e.g. lentils, beans, oats, quinoa, chia seeds, flaxseeds
Fibre binds to used-up estrogen in the gut and carries it out through the stool, so it doesn’t get reabsorbed into our bloodstream. A fibre-rich diet is essential for maintaining hormonal balance.
Tip: Slowly work up to 25–35 grams of fibre a day.

FOOD #3: Antioxidant-Rich Foods e.g berries, leafy greens, turmeric, ginger, beets
Antioxidants protect our cells from oxidative stress, a type of cellular damage caused by unstable molecules called free radicals.
Oxidative stress is linked to inflammation, DNA damage, and chronic conditions like fibroids, endometriosis, and thyroid disorders.
Tip: Start your day with a berry smoothie or add turmeric to your tea and meals.

FOOD #4: Omega-3 Fats e.g. wild-caught salmon, sardines, flax oil, walnuts, chia seeds
Omega-3s are anti-inflammatory fats that help reduce pain, cramping, and inflammation. They also support hormone production and promote balance.
Tip: Aim for 2 servings of fatty fish a week or 1 tbsp of ground flax/chia seeds daily.

FOOD #5: Liver-Supporting Foods e.g. dandelion root tea, lemon water, garlic, artichoke, parsley
Our liver is our body’s main detox organ. It breaks down and removes excess hormones, especially estrogen. These foods support liver function and help keep detox pathways clear.
Tip: Start your day with warm lemon water or sip on liver-supporting herbal teas such as dandelion (root not leaf), peppermint tea, lemon balm tea, milk thistle tea, turmeric tea, or even nettle leaf tea.

BONUS TIP: Stay Hydrated
Water helps fibre work efficiently and supports detox through urine and bowel movements. Without proper hydration, elimination slows down, allowing hormones like estrogen to linger longer in the body.
Tip: Drink at least 2 litres per day but more if you’re sweating or active.
Healing Fibroids Holistically...
These foods support the body in reducing estrogen dominance, inflammation, and fibroid-friendly conditions.
Remember, diet is one piece of the puzzle. Lifestyle, stress, sleep, movement, and mindset all play a role in fibroid health.
